Samsung has previously revealed 2 ISOCELL 200 MP sensors, but neither of these have been used by their Galaxy phones, yet. However, Samsung recently applied for a trademark "Hexa2Pixel" (Hexa2Pixel), which according to the fans, might be a 450 megapixel sensor (432 megapixels to be exact).

The trademark itself doesn't mention any such camera specification itself, however. This speculation originates from Samsung's previous trademark, the "Tetra2Pixel" (Tetra2Pixel).

The Tetra2Pixel technology

Previously, Samsung unveiled ISOCELL HP1 sensor which has a resolution of 200MP. This sensor can switch to the 50MP mode with a 2x2 pixel binning, or a 4x4 pixel binning (Tetra2Pixel). Looking at that, fans are suggesting that the new Hexa2Pixel is a 6x6 pixel binning technology, meaning it combines 36 pixels into one. Essentially, that means the sensor is capable of 450 megapixels, or 432MP, according to the tweet by @IceUniverse.

On the other hand, it's not likely that even if this is true, Samsung will actually reveal this 450MP sensor in their phones, at least not anytime soon. However, it's worth noting that Samsung has been known to push the megapixel counts while competing with the rivals, so it's not completely out of the question that Samsung is in fact, working on an even higher megapixel sensor this time.
