Husqvarna, the market leader in robotic lawn mowers, has decided for the love of technology to give the Mars rover Curiosity Rover (the world’s loneliest robot) the birthday party it deserves. More than 100,000 robotic lawnmowers will sing Happy Birthday on August 5th, the tenth year of the Mars Curiosity Rover in space.

Curiosity Rover

Curiosity is the world’s largest and the most technologically advanced Rover that was sent to mars for the purpose of collecting evidence about the existence of extraterrestrial beings. Mars rover supposedly sang Happy Birthday to itself on its first birthday.

However, it has since been prevented from doing so, in order to save the batteries. Thus, its birthdays go un-celebrated.

This year, there would be a change, as Husqvarna has developed an update for its Auto mower robotic lawn mower that lets it sing Happy Birthday. The update is available for a total of 100,000 Auto mower 405X, 415X and 435X AWD models. Husqvarna has a long history of engineering and innovation, and robotic lawnmowers play a huge role in the company’s success.

With the Mars Rover’s birthday getting near, Husqvarna came up with an alarm module on their automatic lawn mower and played around with it to see if they could plan something fun for it. They came up with the idea of having their robotic lawn mowers celebrate another robot.

Head of Robotics Software at Husqvarna, Björn Mannefred said that; “For us, this is a way to pay homage to the great engineering work of NASA, and that of our extensive team of robotic experts, by letting our robotic mowers celebrate a fellow robot. After all, nobody should have to sing Happy Birthday to themselves, right?”.

Alarm System as singing Tech

The technology is based on the existing alarm signal from the Auto mower robotic lawn mower. Husqvarna uses the IFTTT integration platform to let lawn mowers sing Happy Birthday. The robotics product manager at Husqvarna Linda Lindqvist mentioned that:

“We have long been building an infrastructure in which we can complement and combine our robotic lawnmowers with different modules to create new and innovative solutions for our customers. When Curiosity celebrated its birthday, all the building blocks were in place. And because our robots are so popular and part of family life on Earth, we thought we’d take that love to space”.

Join The Celebration

Anyone who owns the eligible lawn mower will be notified of the update via the Husqvarna Auto mower Connect app, where they will be prompted to install the update. They can then decide if they want to join the celebration. If they accept the firmware update, and connect to the Smart Connection in the Smart Home section of Auto mower connect app, the Auto mower will sing on August 5th in honor of Curiosity’s 10th anniversary on Mars.
